A 51-year-old Kona man was arrested Wednesday in connection with threatening comments made to the staff of a Big Island Hospital.

Kona Patrol Officers responded to a call from Kona Community Hospital at 9:24 a.m. after receiving a report that a man had made phone calls threatening to "shoot up" the hospital.

Police contacted Philip Couch at his home in the White Sands area off Ali‘i Drive and arrested him at 12:40 p.m. on suspicion of disorderly conduct for causing alarm at the hospital.

He was released about an hour later pending further investigation.

Access to Kona Community Hospital was temporarily restricted after the phone calls were made. Police say those restrictions included tighter security at main entrances and locked side doors.
