HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Allegiant Airlines, which begins to serve Honolulu this summer, adds another city to its pending Hawaii route network - Monterey, Calif.
The one flight per week will begin Nov. 16, Allegiant said Wednesday. Introductory fares are below $200, the airline said.
Monterey is an affluent community about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Famous as the home of the Monterey Jazz Festival, it is also home to the Naval Postgraduate School and the Defense Language Institute, and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta lives there.
Allegiant's first flights, beginning this summer, will be from its original base at Fresno, Calif., and its current hub at Las Vegas. Other flights starting in the fall will be from Bellingham, Wash., Eugene, Ore., and Santa Maria, Calif.
