Stranded Hikers, High Surf, Lantern Look Back

HIKER SEARCH

A search party will head back out to Kaaawa this morning to search for a couple who got lost hiking up toward Koolau Ridge from Swanzi Beach Park. Last night, the call was made to stop the helicopter search because of their challenging position and windy conditions. The military couple is keeping contact with the Fire Department via cell phone. Ramsay Wharton will have the latest live on Sunrise.

HIGH WINDS & SURF

The strong winds are kicking up the surf. Expect choppy conditions for the East facing shores of Oahu, Kauai, Maui, Molokai and the Big Island. A high surf advisory is posted through tonight. Dan is tracking the large waves.

LANTERN FLOATING

The breezes seemed to back off just as thousands of lanterns were released by the water's edge at Magic Island last night. It was a moving sight to see the personal messages floating in unison after Sunset. I had the honor of co-hosting the Lantern Floating Ceremony with Dan and Billy V for a second year. We'll share our experiences and re-play some of the highlights on Sunrise. If you missed it or want to see it from start to finish, we'll re-air the ceremony this Saturday on KGMB at 6pm. You can also view a slideshow right now on HawaiiNewsNow.com.

KAUAI BRUSH FIRE

Kauai firefighters will continue battling a brush fire in Kokee this morning. It has charred about four acres of state land so far.

CANDIDATE FORUM

The three major Honolulu Mayoral candidates and three candidates for Congress will be questioned on their future plans for tourism related issues today at a forum hosted by the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association. It's free for lodging association members, and 20 dollars for non-members. Hawaii News Now will be following the hot topics from the forum.

ROMNEY COULD CLINCH

Big day on tap on the presidential campaign trail. Mitt Romney is expected to clinch the GOP nomination. Romney needs 58 delegates and should hit that mark with the Texas primary happening today.

KAPALUA FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL

Also on Sunrise, we'll head into the kitchen for a preview of the Kapalua Food & Wine Festival.

Hope you can join us!

Aloha,

Tannya Joaquin
