KAAAWA (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu Fire Department rescued two hikers who were stranded in Kaaawa Valley overnight.

According to officials, a man and woman were hiking near Swanzy Beach Park, where they traveled toward the Koolau ridge and into the valley Monday afternoon. The pair alerted authorities at about 7:25 p.m. when they could not find their way out.

HFD crews attempted to use a helicopter in their search, but decided it was not safe. They suspended rescue operations at about 8:30 p.m.

Crews safely rescued the two hikers at about 6 a.m. Tuesday.
