Candlelight vigil for former Hawaii man murdered in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (HawaiiNewsNow) - Friends of Bobby Khamvongsa, 27, held a memorial in Los Angeles on Sunday night to honor the Kaimuki High School graduate who was murdered last week. They gathered at a friend's house in West Hollywood, lit candles, and marched to the spot where he was killed. Khamvongsa's body was found on a street with several stab wounds last week Saturday. His former classmate, Richard Herrera, has been charged with murder.

Friends said Khamvongsa was trying to live out his dream of being an actor, makeup artist and hairstylist.

"Everybody here encountered Bobby in some way, somehow, and just felt his love," said Khamvongsa's friend Thip Soulisak. "To someone's face, he'd just walk into the room, say one thing, and we'd all just bust out laughing."

A traditional Laotian Buddhist service was also held in memory of Khamvongsa. His family and friends in Hawaii will hold a funeral at Borthwick Mortuary on June 3.
