HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow)- A man in his early 20's is in serious condition tonight after he side-swiped a taxi van and lost control of his moped Saturday evening.
According to authorities, the taxi was in the center lane of Ala Moana Boulevard just before Piikoi Street and the moped rider was in the far right lane when the collision occurred.
"(He) was cutting in and out of traffic and sideswiped the taxi van, which caused him to lose control," said Lt. Robert Towne of the Honolulu Police Department.
The victim's injuries were initially classified as critical, but were later upgraded. Investigators say the man was not wearing a helmet.
Two lanes of Ala Moana Boulevard were blocked off for about an hour and a half while police investigated.
