HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The tomato is a most versatile fruit, raw or cooked; if you love tomatoes, you're going to love the next Eat the Street! Head down to join the festivities with this month's tomato-themed Eat the Street food truck festival on Friday, May 25 from 4:00 - 9:00 p.m. at 555 South St. in Kaka'ako.
Brought to you by StreetGrindz.com, in partnership with Kamehameha Schools and Nonstop Honolulu, this month's culinary adventure features the tomato: Raw, cooked, green, red, sliced, diced, sauteed or sauced.
All the vendors are encouraged to incorporate tomato into at least one of their dishes in a creative way. Some of the vendors will be selected to do short videos on how they plan to incorporate the tomato. Plus, Shogunai's DJ crew will be spinning some great beats to dine to, while Lightsleepers hosts the monthly live art battle.
A few featured vendors this month are Zaratez Mexicatessen, serving up a special three-taco sampler (carnitas, pollo asado, chorizo) with roasted local tomato and habanero salsa, Soul Patrol, serving Shrimp Diablo, spicy mac'n'cheese and shrimp in roasted tomato sauce, and Paul's Poppers, serving a special Lomi Tomato Popper and Caprese (Tomato Basil Mozzarella) Popper.
Head over for a tribute to the tomato on Friday, May 25 at 555 South St. from 4:00-9:00 p.m. Admission to Eat the Street is FREE. Past events have brought crowds of thousands to Eat the Street, which features more than 40 of the best food trucks and street vendors in Honolulu.
