Visitor Industry Charity Walk raises record amount of money

WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - It was a record-breaking Saturday morning for Oahu's Visitor Industry Charity Walk.

More than 6,000 people turned out to walk the streets of Waikiki.

Saturday's event completes a string of record-setting walks across the state.

More than 1.3 million dollars was raised for various Hawaii charities.

"It just seems to be infectious with Molokai, Lanai, Kauai, Maui, Big Island all record numbers. Winding up here on Oahu, we had a great, great successful charity walk for 2012", said Hawaii Hotels & Lodging Association President Mufi Hannemann.

Of all the islands, Maui raised the most money of $530,000 from their walk.

Since it started in 1978, the charity walk has brought in more than $24 million for local charities.
