HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The University of Hawai‘i football team was well-represented on Phil Steele's preseason All-Mountain West teams which will appear in the magazine's 2012 College Football Preview which hits newsstands June 5.
Twelve Warriors were mentioned on the preseason's all-MW first, second, third, and fourth teams, including first teamers Billy Ray Stutzmann (WR), Art Laurel (LB), and Mike Edwards (KR). Edwards was also selected as a fourth-team cornerback.
In addition, defensive lineman Haku Correa, defensive back John Hardy-Tuliau, and punter Alex Dunnachie were selected to the second team. Wide receiver Jeremiah Ostrowski and defensive lineman Paipai Falemalu were picked to the third team while running back Joey Iosefa, offensive lineman Dave Lefotu, and punt returner Scott Harding were mentioned on the fourth team.
Last season, Stutzmann led the team in catches with 78 and finished second in receiving with 910 yards. The junior from Honolulu ranked fifth in the WAC and 36th nationally receptions per game (6.0) and was seventh in the WAC and 58th nationally in receiving yards per game (70.0).
Laurel, a junior from Wahiawâ, O‘ahu, finished fourth on the team with 61 total tackles, including a team-leading 14.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks. Edwards, a junior from Cleveland, Ohio, averaged 24.7 yards on 44 kick returns which ranked second in the WAC and 42nd nationally.
The Warriors will play their inaugural season in the Mountain West Conference this season.
