HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie is on personal leave, visiting family in New York state.
The governor's office says Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz will be acting governor until Abercrombie returns on Friday afternoon.
On Friday morning, Schatz will travel to Taiwan and Korea to promote Hawaii tourism and sign a memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation. Abercrombie has assigned Schatz to head an energy initiative for Hawaii that includes seeking national and international partnerships.
Until Abercrombie returns at 5:30 p.m., Attorney General David Louie will serve as acting governor.
