DENVER – (Hawaii Athletics) University of Hawai‘i
centerfielder Kelly Majam was selected Verizon Western Athletic
Conference Hitter of the Week for April 30-May 6. This is the first honor of
the season and third of her career for Majam.
Majam, a junior centerfielder from Pine Valley,
Calif., hit .800 with three doubles, a home run and four RBI as the Rainbow
Wahine swept the series at Utah State to clinch their fourth WAC regular-season
title. She had at least two hits in all three games and posted a 1.400 slugging
percentage and a .769 on-base percentage for the week. In the second game of
the series that clinched the WAC title, Majam tied her career game-high with four
hits, as she went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles with two runs scored and two
RBI. In the series finale, Majam was 2-for-2 and tied her career-high with
three runs scored to go with two RBI and a solo home run.
Overall, Majam is hitting .294 with a team-high
50 runs scored and 36 walks. She is second on the team with 12 home runs, a
.610 slugging percentage and a .461 on-base percentage. In WAC action, she
leads UH with a .383 average, 23 hits, 21 runs scored, and four doubles.
The Rainbow Wahine (43-5, 17-3 WAC) won the WAC
regular season crown for the fourth time in school history this past week with
a sweep at Utah State. The ‘Bows are the top seed in the upcoming WAC
Championship (May 8-12) in Las Cruces, N.M.
