ONOMEA BAY (HawaiiNewsNow) - Big Island police said a man died while picking opihi at a scenic spot on the Hamakua Coast. According to authorities, a passerby spotted the 43-year-old's body floating in Onomea Bay around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The fire department airlifted the man to shore. He was taken to the Hilo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The man's name is being withheld until his family is notified. An autopsy has been scheduled.
