HONOLULU – Matt Sisto was his usual effective self, and the
Rainbows supported him in an unusual way.
Add it all up, and UH came out with a 5-2 series opening win over New
Mexico State.
Sisto pitched seven innings, allowing one earned run on five
hits. He walked two and struck out four.
The Rainbows gave him more than enough run support, with the
bulk of it coming in the 5th inning.
Garrett Champion opened the frame with a single and was
bunted over to 2nd base by Stephen Ventimilia. Kaeo Aliviado was hit by a pitch, then Piikea
Kitamura singled to load the bases.
Trevor Podratz was hit by a pitch, plating Champion. Collin Bennett followed with a 2-run single,
but was thrown out at second. All told,
the ‘Bows sent seven batters to the plate, scoring 3 times.
The Rainbows improved to 26-18 overall, and 6-4 in the WAC,
just one game back of the Aggies, who fell to 7-3 in conference play.
The two teams will meet again Friday and Saturday nights.
