HONOLULU (AP) - A chef for Hawaii's Foodland Super Market has won a national competition for the best food retail industry recipe.
The Food Marketing Institute said Thursday Keoni Chang won the title of Grand Chef at its Supermarket Chef Showdown contest in Dallas.
He beat out 20 finalist chefs with a dish titled Deconstructed Ahi California Roll.
The contest had 357 recipe submissions.
Chang wins $1,000 and admittance to a professional development course at the Culinary Institute of America.
Chang joined Foodland in 2004. He was born and raised on Oahu and is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools. He also attended Kapiolani Community College's Culinary Arts Program and the Culinary Institute of America in New York.
