Ricketts earns fifth WAC Pitcher of the Week this season

DENVER, COLORADO (HawaiiNewsNow) – University of Hawai'i pitcher Stephanie Ricketts was named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for April 23-29. This is the fifth of the season and 12th overall for Ricketts.
Ricketts, a senior from San Jose, Calif., went 2-0 with 13 strikeouts against Fresno State as the Rainbow Wahine swept the series from the Bulldogs for the first time in school history. She held Fresno State to a .125 batting average in 12 innings pitched. In the series finale, Ricketts fired her second no-hitter of the season and the sixth of her career. She faced just two batters over the minimum and did not allow a runner past second base. She set a new career-high with her 10th shutout of the season and broke UH's 17-year old school record--previously set by former All-American Brooke Wilkins in 1995--with her 33rd career shut out. Ricketts is now the program's career leader in wins (99), strikeouts (791), shutouts (33), innings pitched (897.0), appearances (157) and starts (135).
Ricketts raised her overall record in 2012 to 25-3 and 10-1 in WAC action. She enters this week with a 1.02 ERA in 30 appearances and 184.2 innings pitched. Ricketts has held opponents to a .164 batting average and has walked 78 while striking out 202 this season.
The Rainbow Wahine will close their regular season on the road this weekend at Utah State. The first game is on Saturday, May 4 at 2:00 pm with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 5 beginning at 12:00 pm.
