HONOLULU – Michelle Moses was cruising. The Fresno State pitcher had completely dominated the Rainbow Wahine softball lineup through three-plus innings.
Things unraveled quickly.
Staked to a 3-0 lead in the 4th, Moses surrendered a monstrous 2-run home run to Makani Duhaylonsod Kaleimamahu which cut the lead to one run.
In the 5th, the Wahine bats battered Moses, and Fresno State, into submission. Alex Aguirre started the scoring with a 2-run with the bases loaded to give UH the 4-3 lead. Leisha Li'ili'I followed with a towering 2-run double.
Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu, Jocelyn Enrique, Kayla Wartner and Sarah Robinson all had run producing singles as the Wahine scored 9 runs in the inning, inducing the 8-run/5th inning mercy rule.
The final score, 11-3.
The Wahine are now 12-3 in WAC play, a half game ahead of FSU. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 2pm.
