ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT CAUGHT
Police think they've cracked the case, and caught the man behind a series of armed robberies. Overnight, they took James Walters III into custody. He was wanted for robbing tourists on the Ala Wai Bridge at gunpoint and a Lanikai car break in. His truck also matches the description of one linked to a hold up at the L & R restaurant in Kaneohe. Ramsay is gathering details from police and will have the latest live on Sunrise.
TROOP SHIFT FROM JAPAN TO HAWAII
We should learn more today about plans to shift 27-hundred Marines from Okinawa to Hawaii. Senator Inouye says that's in the works over the next couple of years. However, it's not necessarily a done deal. The Senate Armed Services Chair says any new proposal should not be considered unless it has the support of Congress.
MAD COW FALLOUT
At least two major South Korean retailers have pulled U.S. beef from their stores following the discovery of mad cow disease in a California dairy cow. It's the first confirmed case in the United States since 2006. Mad cow can cause a deadly human brain disease in people who eat tainted beef.
Happening today, the Honolulu City Council will take up a bill that would require labels for genetically modified food. Supporters are planning a 9 am rally at Kapolei Hale.
COAST IS ALMOST CLEAR
Work on the Waikiki sand replenishment project is set to wrap up this afternoon. Crews should finish hauling sand between the Duke Kahanamoku Statue and the Sheraton Waikiki around 3 pm.
HAWAIIAN PRAYER FOR MISSING CALIFORNIA TEEN
The family of missing California teenager Sierra Lamar hopes a Hawaiian prayer will help. Yesterday, a prayer dance was done just as the search party headed out to look for the Morgan Hill girl who has been missing for more than a month. Why a Hawaiian prayer? The family of the 15 year old says she loves Hawaii.
CHEESA EXITS THE VOICE
No save this time for Cheesa Laureta. Her commanding Whitney Houston performance on Monday night wasn't good enough to keep her in the competition. She faced off in a "last chance sing off" with her teammate Juliet last night. In the end, her coach Cee-lo decided to keep Juliet.
