KAPOLEI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Construction of the elevated portion of Oahu's rail project started Monday, as more groups step forward to support the City's transit plan in court.
Drilling for support columns begins near Farrington Highway in east Kapolei. The work will be performed on the first stretch of the route.
On Friday, the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) announced it received approval from the Federal Transit Administration, allowing construction to begin.
The City received the go-ahead after showing historic sites in Leeward Oahu would not likely be affected.
