Japan planning to buy disputed islands

TOKYO, Japan (HawaiiNewsNow) - Tokyo expects to strike a deal to buy a set of islands in the east China Sea claimed by both Japan and China.

Japan controls the four islands known as Senkaku. The islands are uninhabited and privately-owned islands.

In 2010, relations between the countries were strained after Japan detained the captain of a Chinese fishing vessel that collided with two Japanese ships near the islands.

No immediate reaction from the Chinese government was reported following the announcement made by Tokyo's governor.
