DENVER, Colo. –
University of Hawai'i senior third baseman Collin Bennett has
been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week
for games played from April 9-15. This is the first WAC weekly honor of
Bennett's career.
Bennett hit .667 (8-12) with four runs scored, a double, a triple, six
RBI and one walk as the Rainbows went 2-2 against Saint Mary's. Bennett
had a career-high four RBI with a triple and a run scored in UH's game
two victory against the Gaels. He also had
a game-tying two-RBI hit in the final inning against Saint Mary's in
game one of Sunday's doubleheader. In his four games last week, Bennett
had 11 total bases and recorded a .917 slugging percentage. He also
registered a .714 on base percentage.
Bennett
and the Rainbows are currently 21-15 overall and 2-1 in the WAC, and
next play San Jose State and Louisiana Tech in their first conference
road trip of the season.
They play the Spartans from Apr. 20-22, Grambling State for a single
non-conference game on Apr. 24, then conclude the trip with three games
against LaTech from Apr. 26-28.
