News You Can Use: Men's Skincare

HONOLULU, Oahu (HawaiiNewsNow) - Skin care, it isn't complicated but it can be a bit intimidating for men. Reporter Malika Dudley got some tips from Richard Keramidas, a men's skincare guru at Macy's Ala Moana.

Men should follow a few simple steps to keep their skin refreshed and clean. "Wash your face first, clean your skin really well then you're going to use something to prep your beard," says Richard. Shave next with a sharp razor. "Then you're going to moisturize, protect, use something around your eyes. Sunscreen and you're good to go! The whole thing shouldn't take more than 15 minutes," said Richard.

Quick and easy but product choice is important. Richard explains, "A lot of men if they live with girls they sneak and steal their girlfriends or wives skin care which is really made for a woman's skin. Men and women's skin are completely different." Men should use products formulated for their skin. To cleanse, bar soap or foaming cleanser will do. Use a gel or cream to shave."It's going to hydrate and moisturize your beard so that you get a really great close shave," said Richard.

A moisturizing soothing spray and toner are also recommended. "Scruffing lotion is an astringent slash toner. So what it's going to do is it's going to help your skin after you shave to calm it down a little bit and bring the ph back to normal," said Richard. That helps your skin absorb the moisturizer. If you have issues with aging, incorporate a serum. "What this product is going to do is it's going to go into your skin, help revitalize the skin cells, so they start acting like younger skin cells and get more plump and then you can put any type of moisturizer you like on top of this," said Richard.

Our guinea pig, Brendan tried a moisturizer with SPF and a bit of tint. "Do you still feel masculine wearing something like this?" asked Richard. Brendan said, "Yeah, if it is really transparent. I mean if it looked like make-up then I wouldn't feel comfortable with that."

Lastly, Richard's secret ingredient. "The one thing that I can't live without is my eye cream. Simply unscrew, and just put it right here, and then pat it in. Let's face it, we don't want to look old before our time," he said.
