HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Think you can whip up a pretty mean batch of poke? Bring your skills to the table at the annual Poke Contest, hosted this year by Chef Reno Henriques at the Hawaii Ocean Expo on Saturday, April 21 from 1-4 p.m. and Sunday, April 22 from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Neal Blaisdell Exhibition Hall's Pikake room.
Sponsored by Alaska Air, Fresh Catch, and Alaska Reel Adventures, the contest is divided into three judging categories: Ahi, Tako, and Vegetarian poke. The grand prize winner from each division will win a round trip for two people to the West Coast, courtesy of Alaska Air.
The contest starts on Saturday, April 21, when a total of three winners from each division will be chosen by vote from expo attendees. These nine winners also qualify for the semi-finals held on Sunday, April 22. In the semi-finals, the nine winners will return and prepare the same poke dish that they won with the day before. Professional chefs from top Hawaii restaurants will judge these dishes, and the judges will choose one recipe from each division. In the exciting finale, or the "Mystery Box" round, the three winners of the semi-final round will battle it out. Contestants will only be able to use ingredients selected by Chef Reno Henriques to create their recipes. The final decision on who will become the Fresh Catch Poke Master of 2012 will be a combination of peoples' choice and judges' decision.
Entry to the Poke Contest is $150 per person/team. For more information, or to enter, email HERE!
