HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An elderly woman died Sunday morning after a bicyclist hit her in downtown Honolulu.
The medical examiner's office identified the victim as Dionicia Leoning of Liliha.
Her son told us the 80-year old was about to catch the bus home after church Saturday night.
Investigators say the bicyclist hit her while she was in a crosswalk on Hotel Street.
The bicyclist allegedly ran a red light.
The Hawaii Bicycling League is reminding riders that they have the same rights and responsibilities as other drivers of vehicles.
"We believe that all fatalities are preventable if people follow the rules, slow down, use the speed limit and watch out for each other", said Hawaii Bicycling League Executive Director Chad Taniguchi.
Leoning was pronounced dead just after 2:20 Sunday morning.
