KAHULUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Firefighters on Maui continue to battle a stubborn brush fire on the Kahului Airport side of Stable Road that has left parts of Kahului filled with smoke.
As of 12:00 p.m. Sunday, a Maui fire spokesperson says the fire was 75% contained. About 20 acres has burned.
The blaze, which was called in just before 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning, is located near Kanaha Beach Park. Multiple companies were dispatched to help douse the fire, and two helicopters also assisted efforts.
The helicopters continued to fight the fire until dark Saturday evening. Ground units were on the scene throughout the night.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
