HONOLULU – Different venue, same result. Mike Trapasso's Rainbows returned home after four straight losses at Gonzaga, but playing at home couldn't cure their ills as they dropped a 5-3 decision to UC Davis Thursday night. The defeat was their fifth straight.
The trouble began immediately, as staff ace Matt Sisto was uncharacteristically wild in the first. He hit two batters, surrendered three hits and allowed three runs in the inning. Sisto allowed an earned run in the 3rd and an unearned run in the 5th. He pitched 8 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 9 hits, while striking out three and walking none.
The Rainbows offense failed to pick him up.
Trevor Podratz accounted for UH's first two runs of the game, lobbing an opposite field home run over the right field fence in the 4th. It was Podratz's second career home run, and first at Les Murakami Stadium.
Piikea Kitamura fisted off a high fastball in the 8th to plate Breland Almadova to close out the scoring.
The Rainbows dropped to 14-12 overall. The two teams will play three more games against each other.
