BOY KILLED IN HIT AND RUN CRASH AT BUS STOP
A 3 year old boy was killed after a car slammed into a bus stop in Makaha. Police have arrested, but not yet charged a Waianae man suspected of crashing into a family of 5, then leaving the scene. We're getting word that it may have been a homeless family and an 11 year old girl may need to have her legs amputated. Ramsay Wharton is gathering details on this breaking news and will have live reports on Sunrise.
STANDOFF SUSPECT IN CUSTODY
A man is in police custody this morning after a standoff last night in Pacific Palisades. The SWAT team was called out to respond to calls about possible shots fired. He's being held on suspicion of reckless endangerment.
NEW GAS RECORD
Hilo drivers are now paying an average of 4.72 for regular unleaded, a new record. Gas prices are just 4 cents away from a new high in Honolulu at 4.44. The statewide average is 4.57, 2 cents off an historic high.
SWELL DELAYS SAND PROJECT
We're tracking an out of season south shore swell that's causing a delay for Waikiki's sand replenishment project. The barge that was moored offshore has been moved because of big waves.
TSUNAMI DEBRIS TASK FORCE
This morning, lawmakers will talk about creating a task force to develop an international response plan to the tsunami debris from the March 11th disaster in Japan. It's expected to reach Hawaii's shores.
MISSING EXOTIC BIRDS AT LARGE
Three exotic birds that flew the coop at the Honolulu Zoo after someone cut holes in their cages are still on the loose. Zoo officials don't think the trio went very far.
