Man in critical condition following Kaneohe moped crash

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man is in critical condition following a moped crash Tuesday night.

According to officials, the incident happened just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Kaneohe Bay Drive and Mokulele Drive.

Police say the 19-year-old Kailua man was operating a black Honda moped, traveling westbound on Kaneohe Bay Drive when he disregarded a red light at the Mokulele intersection. He then crashed into a 2008 white Lexus RX 250 traveling eastbound and was ejected from the moped.

Emergency crews transported the 19 year old to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition with massive leg injuries.

Police say speed is a possible factor and that the victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Lexus, a 61-year-old Honolulu man, was not injured.
