HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A federal judge on Tuesday sentenced an Oahu gun shop owner to four years and three months in prison for tax evasion.
The IRS says Arthur Ong of Magnum Firearms created multiple phony trusts to hide millions of dollars of income from weapons sales. Authorities say he falsified tax returns and evaded about $900,000 in federal and state income taxes over a six-year period.
US District Judge Leslie Kobayashi ordered the gun dealer to pay more than $1 million in restitution.
Ong was not taken into custody Tuesday. He is expected to surrender on May 29th and will serve his time at a mainland facility.
