Power outage near Honolulu Airport caused by faulty cable

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An explosion near a gas station caused quite a scare on Saturday night. According to a spokesman for the Honolulu Fire Department, a short circuit caused a transformer or an electrical box to blow up. The heat from the explosion burned the sign at the Chevron gas station on Wai Wai Loop near the airport.

Police temporarily shut down roads in the area near Lagoon Drive and Nimitz Highway. About 250 customers were without power, but service has been restored. Hawaiian Electric said a faulty cable is to blame.
