HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The former Acting Mayor of the City
and County of Honolulu announced today that a new set of local unions have
endorsed his candidacy to reclaim the mayor's office.
Six trade unions representing more than 6,000 building and
construction workers on Oahu have pledged their support to Kirk Caldwell. The
Plumbers and Fitters Local 675, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
Local 1186, Elevator Constructors Local 126, Insulators and Allied Workers
Local 132, Boilermakers Local 627, and Iron Workers Local 625 all believe Kirk
Caldwell can help reinvigorate the construction industry in Honolulu.
Damien Kim, of the International Brotherhood of Electrical
Workers Local 1186, says "Kirk will bring experience, proven leadership skills
and the character we all admire to Honolulu Hale. The people of Oahu deserve
better and that's why we all support Kirk Caldwell for Mayor."
Caldwell says the endorsements reflect his commitment to the
working families of Honolulu.
"For me, it symbolizes my collaborative
style," Caldwell said. "You have unions here coming together, all part of the
building trades. They're diverse, they all do specific, unique things in
different areas in rebuilding our city, and they have all come together to say
that I'm the guy to work with to make sure our city moves forward."
