The Chow Era---at least the Spring Practice portion of it---began under a hot afternoon sun in Manoa, with Norm Chow's new assistants pushing the tempo and the volume under his watchful eye.

All of Chow's assistant coaches, especially Chris Demarest, Daronte Jones and Chris Wiesehan, displayed a visible—and audible---intensity, pushing the team to keep a high pace throughout the two-plus hour workout.

"That's the way we intend to coach, that's the way we want to coach, and that's the way we want our players to play" said Chow afterwards.

The head coach, sending a clear message to his team on the field that good enough isn't good enough.  "Our guys have to learn the tempo we want to have" added Chow.

For the most part, the players responded with energy of their own.  They yelled, clapped, ran and powered their way through several high intensity fundamentals drills before mixing in seven on seven and 11-man drills.  The coach, approving of what he saw, saying succinctly "overall, it was a good first day."

Much of the anticipation of seeing the first practice was focused on the new head coach himself, but Chow was quick to deflect it.

"It's not about me.  It's about our team, our players and our coaches."

The team, the players and the coaches all had a short turnaround Tuesday night.  After dinner and film work, the Warriors will reconvene Wednesday morning at 7am before another afternoon practice at 3:30p on Thursday.

All Spring practices are free and open to the public.  The Warriors will be off from March 23rd through April 2nd for spring break before resuming practices on Tuesday, April 3rd.
