Porta-potty business offers $2,500 reward for capture of arsonist

HONOKAA (HawaiiNewsNow) - The owner of a porta-potty business on the Big Island is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of an arsonist in Puna.

Hawaii John's has been placing portable toilet units at Ahalanui Beach Park for years. The company says four of them were destroyed by fire early Monday morning and it will cost more than $3,700 -- not including freight and installation -- to replace them.

The business has been hit by the fire bug before. Owner Dora Cummings says at least 22 portable toilet units in that park area have been damaged over the past seven years.

"The only way that it's going to stop is that if I don't put units there, and they'll be doing their business on the ground," she said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Hawaii County police.
