MAALAEA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Two people are recovering following a deadly crash in Ma'alaea.

The crash happened just after 5 p.m. Sunday.

Police say a group of motorcyclists were traveling on North Kihei Road when one of them went into the on-coming lane.

The motorcyclist hit two trucks, one of which spun out, into the group of motorcyclists.

The first motorcyclist and another rider were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as Abel Ventura Jr., 58, and Marlene Debnam,58, both of Wailuku.

Two other people were taken to the Maui Memorial Hospital.

North Kihei Road was reopened just before 10 p.m. Sunday. Police are looking into whether speed or alcohols were factors in the crash.

This is Maui county's 5th fatality compared to 2 at the same time last year.
