City to recycle sand at Kailua Beach

KAILUA (HawaiiNewsNow) – Beginning Monday, March 19, the City and County of Honolulu will be taking sand previously removed from the mouth of Kaelepulu Stream and distributing it on Kailua Beach between the stream and the boat ramp. The goal of the project is to widen the beach and slow erosion.

The work begins Monday and while the city hopes to finish the job by late Wednesday, it may last until Friday. The beach will be closed each work day from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. between the boat ramp and Kaelepulu Stream.
