Native Hawaiian leader Charles Maxwell dies

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - After a prolonged illness, Native Hawaiian leader Charles Maxwell has passed away.

Maxwell was instrumental in getting the Ritz Carlton Kapalua to move its location to prevent the exhumation of hundreds of Native Hawaiian burials.

Maxwell also helped lead a movement to protect and clean up Kahoolawe following military bombings and was a police officer on Maui and Molokai for 15 years.

He was 74 years old.
