HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - While most of the country is consumed by March Madness, the Sunrise team is struggling with Mango Madness! A large Hayden mango is hanging right in front of one of our traffic cameras and every time it appears.. we all get a craving for mangoes.
To learn more about this delicious local treat we invited Kristine Wallerius to be on the show. She is a registered dietician and with the College of Tropical Agriculture. Check out the video of her interview.
Part of Kris' job is to coordinate the Hawaii Foods web site. It is a UH Manoa based local food website that is the exclusive resource for nutrient info as well as photos of uniquely local foods. You can check it out by clicking here or go to: http://www.hawaiifoods.hawaii.edu/
Kris told us they have recently updated the website's content and now have scientifically based nutrient info and great photos on over 500 Chinese, Hawaiian, Filipino, Japanese, Korean and other foods commonly eaten. Also, this month, they were the first to post nutrient info and photos on LOCAL KINE SNACKS like li hing candies, dried seafood, kakimochi, hurricane popcorn,crackseed- it's all there!
