Gas prices soaring, impacting Hawaii drivers

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A new AAA Hawaii poll shows that gas prices are taking a toll on the public's household budget.

An average gallon of regular gas in Honolulu will cost $4.34. That's up 41 cents from a year ago and up 26 cents from a month ago.

Current prices haven't broken last year's record high of $4.48, which was set in May.

On the neighbor islands, Hilo is paying $4.59, while Wailuku is at $4.54.

Of the people surveyed by AAA Hawaii, 79% of them are cutting back on unnecessary driving, 50% are dining out less, 47% are saving less, and 40% are spending less on entertainment.

Hawaii has the highest average statewide gas prices at $4.45 followed by California at $4.36.

Wyoming is at the bottom, paying $3.38 per gallon.
