TOKYO (HawaiiNewsNow) - Two strong earthquakes rattled Japan overnight. A 6.1 magnitude hit near Tokyo. A stronger 6.8 quake rattled northern Japan earlier triggering evacuation advisories and even a small tsunami.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no threat to Hawaii. Several towns issued evacuation advisories for the more powerful quake. A small tsunami of about two and a half inches was observed on the southern tip of Hokkaido Island but there was no damage immediately reported. The quakes struck just 3 days after the one year anniversary of the powerful 9-point-0 quake that triggered the massive and deadly tsunami in Japan leaving about 19-thousand dead or missing.
