HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Honolulu, Kauai and Maui Counties.

A severe thunderstorm watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch areas of Honolulu, Lihue and Kahului.

The NWS says residents in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.

Severe thunderstorms produce winds of 58 miles per hour or higher. There is also a possibility for hail the size of quarters or larger.

The severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 10 a.m.
