Maui County remains under flash flood warning

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A flash flood warning has been extended for the island of Maui until 12:15 p.m.

At 8:50 a.m. heavy rain diminished over east Maui, but runoff levels remain high.

According to Maui Civil Defense, Highway 360 and the Hana Highway remains closed from mile market 7 to Hana Town.

Conditions have improved over the south-facing slope of Haleakala, so the flash flood warning has been canceled for the area from Kaupo to Kula.

Locations in the warning include, but are not limited to:

  • Paia
  • Nahiku
  • Keanae
  • Hana
  • Kipahulu

Residents in low lying areas are urged to move to higher ground.

The warning may extend beyond 12:15 p.m.
