HAWAII KAI (HawaiiNewsNow) – A car accident that knocked over a utility pole in Hawaii Kai has knocked out power to around 300 customers in the area, including several shopping centers.
The accident, which happened at around 3:30 p.m. this afternoon, also forced road closures in the eastbound lanes of Kalanianiole Highway near Portlock. Residents are advised to avoid the area.
The power appears to be back on at the Hawaii Kai Towne Center, but the Koko Marina Shopping Center is reportedly one of the customers still in the dark.
Update at 5:15 p.m. HECO has restored power to most of the customers affected by the outage, but there are still around 40 without power, most in the Koko Marina area. Traffic in the area is still
