Portion of Nimitz Highway closed as crews repair water main

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Board of Water Supply (BWS) crews are continuing their work to repair an 16-inch water main break at 900 North Nimitz Highway. 

Crews have re-opened two right westbound lanes of North Nimitz Highway between Pacific Street and Alakawa Street. 

The far left eastbound lane of North Nimitz Highway between Pacific Street and Alakawa Street continues to be contra-flowed. 

Repair work is expected to continue through tomorrow.  Motorists are advised to expect delays and to use alternate routes if possible.

One customer remains without water service.

According to officials, the incidents was reported at about 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Honolulu police initially shut down all west bound lanes on Nimitz Highway between Alakawa and Pacific Streets. One westbound lane was reopened just after 7:30 a.m.

Repair work is expected to continue into the evening through tomorrow.  Motorists are advised to expect delays and to use alternate routes if possible.

The water main was installed in 1942.
