Bows' Squier Grabs First WAC Honors

DENVER (HawaiiNewsNow) – University of Hawaii's Scott Squier has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for games played from Feb. 27-Mar. 4. This is the first honor for Squier.

Squier, a freshman from Phoenix, Ariz., picked up his second win of the season to improve to 2-1. He delivered a 4-0 shutout victory over Wichita State (Mar. 3) in 8.0 innings of work while recording seven strikeouts and allowing only two walks. His performance equaled the longest outing of the season for the UH pitching staff and just the team's second shutout of the season.

After a tough outing in his first collegiate appearance (Oregon, Feb. 20), he delivered an impressive performance against Wagner College (Feb. 25). He tossed six shutout innings surrendering just two hits while striking out six Wagner batters.

The Rainbows are currently 9-4 after winning three of four games against Wichita State. They will have a quick turnaround as they host Central Michigan in a four-game series starting Wednesday, Mar. 7. First pitch of the series-opener is set for 6:35 p.m.
