State Drying Out, Road Rage Suspect, Kauai Police Standoff

ISLANDS DRYING OUT

The flash flood watch for Oahu and Kauai has been canceled early. It was initially posted through 6 this morning, but Dan says after swamping Kauai and Oahu, the moisture is rapidly moving out. Streets around Koloa, Hanapepe and Lihue and the Hanalei Bridge were all closed yesterday due to heavy rain. Check out the video here.  Whenever severe weather hits, you can follow the storm with our interactive radar map.

POWER COMING BACK ONLINE

More than a dozen customers are waiting for service to be restored after an overnight power outage in Kalihi. This one isn't blamed on severe weather, but a possible "equipment failure."

ROAD RAGE SUSPECT IN COURT

Happening today, a man accused of a road rage shooting on the H-1 Freeway is scheduled to be in court. Douglas Freeman is charged with terroristic threatening after allegedly firing shots at the car Bronson Botelho was driving Friday night. Botelho says Freeman cut him off.

KAUAI POLICE CHIEF STANDOFF

Also today, Kauai County's Charter Review Commission is scheduled to meet to discuss who has the ultimate authority to decide if Police Chief Darryl Perry can report to work- the Police Commission or the Mayor. A power struggle arose when Mayor Bernard Carvalho put Chief Perry on administrative leave at the beginning of the month. The Police Commission ruled that Perry could return to work but Carvalho disagreed and the Chief was denied access to his office, badge and gun. The meeting will happen at 4. We'll have the latest for you on Hawaii News Now tonight.

CRUISE PASSENGERS ROBBED

New this morning, passengers on the Carnival Splendor, a cruise ship that makes stops in Hawaii, were robbed at gunpoint while on a jungle excursion in Mexico. The cruise line will reportedly reimburse the passengers for their losses. The Splendor stops in Hilo, Kailua-Kona, Kahului, and Honolulu.

OSCAR STANDOUTS

Oscar hype doesn't mean a thing. There were some surprises last night. George Clooney did not win the Best Actor prize for The Descendants. Neither did Brad Pitt for Moneyball. Instead, it was an actor who only uttered two words on screen, Jean Dujardin of the Artist. Merryl Streep won her third Oscar for playing Margaret Thatcher in the Iron Lady. But it was Angelina Jolie's thigh high gown and imitation of Jolie's seductive pose by a Descendants' writer that got the most laughs. We'll check out the fashion hits & misses and talk back live with a CNN reporter who covered the Academy Awards this morning on Sunrise.

KIDCASTER WEEK ON SUNRISE

Plus, it's Kidcaster Week. This morning, Dan will introduce us to his first young helper, Jesse-Keanu Flores.

Hope you can join us!

Aloha,
