BABY KILLED IN CAR CRASH
Police have opened a negligent homicide investigation after a 6 month old boy visiting with his family from Japan died in a car crash on the Big Island. The infant's father flipped their van last night on Hawaii Belt Road. The baby was not in a car seat. Five adults were also injured.
KAUAI POLICE CHIEF WORKING FROM HOME
Kauai's Chief of Police Darryl Perry will work from home after 2 days being locked out of his office by the Mayor. Mayor Carvalho put Perry on leave three weeks ago while the County investigated an officer's "hostile workplace" complaint. The Police Commission has said Perry can return to work. But, the Chief told Hawaii News Now that some officers may want to arrest him and in his words, "It is best to stay away from police headquarters for safety reasons until the Mayor's Administration stops interfering." A meeting on Monday will decide who has the authority to make the call- the Police Commission or the Mayor.
TAXI CAB MURDER CASE
A teen says a facebook status update proves he was not in the taxi cab the night 41 year old driver Charlys Ty Tang was beaten to death, but will the jury buy it? A verdict could come today in this case. Kilani Derego's friend, Michael Robles, who was convicted of manslaughter, testified at his trial that Derego delivered the fatal punches and kicks. A Florida mall has canceled today's sale of the coveted new $220 Nike Foamposite after riot police were forced to break up rowdy crowds of disappointed consumers in Orlando. It would have been extra chaotic because several NBA stars, including Knicks' sensation Jeremy Lin, were scheduled to be there for the shoe release. It's not the first time a Nike shoe release has sparked a riot. Around Christmas, fights broke out at shoes stores in several states over the sale of a limited number of Air Jordans.
LINSANITY LEGAL BATTLE
Speaking of Jeremy Lin, who didn't see this coming? A trademark war is brewing over the catch-phrase "linsanity". There have been seven applications patent and trademark applications filed, one by a lawyer representing Lin.
