Shave Ice Bowl 2012

Posted: Updated:

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu Disc Golf Association (HDGA) is inviting everyone to the 2012 Shave Ice Bowl, a disc golf tournament to benefit the Hawaii Foodbank. It happens Saturday, February 25, 2012, 10:00am to 4:00pm at Honolulu Hale.

The Shave Ice Bowl is Hawaii's version of the Ice Bowl first held in January 1987 in Columbia, Missouri. The tournament was organized to start disc golf activity during the winter months but has since evolved into an annual tournament for disc golf associations worldwide. Since 1996, the focus of the Ice Bowl has been to raise funds and food for local charities and food banks. The official rules of an Ice Bowl tournament are simple:

1. Under no circumstances may an Ice Bowl be canceled or postponed because of weather conditions.

2. No wimps or whiners allowed!

3. There are no excuses for not attending (Either be there or be a wimp!)

The Shave Ice Bowl offers players a great round of golf without the expensive equipment associated with traditional golf. Discs of different weights (driver, midrange, and putter) are thrown into a steel basket mounted on a pole. The player who places the disc in the basket with the fewest throws wins!

Join the HDGA and the Hawaii Foodbank for a round of 18 "pole holes" by signing up for the Shave Ice Bowl today. Bring a friend or create your own team of three:

Team entry (3 persons): $75

Individual Entry: $30

Hole Sponsorship: $50

Lunch and beverages are included with registration. Golf discs will be provided for all. Enjoy complimentary shave ice by Windward Snow. All proceeds will benefit the Hawaii Foodbank to help feed the hungry. For more information, please call 836-3600, ext. 244, click here or send an email to events@hawaiifoodbank.org.
