HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - University of Hawaii pitcher Matt Sisto dazzled No. 27 Oregon for 7 innnings as UH beat the Ducks 4-1 in their season opener.
The senior righty, proved worthy of his "Ace" status, striking out 5, allowing just 2 hits and no earned runs in 7 innings of work for the Bows.
Hawaii struck first Friday night. In the bottom of the 3rd, Collin Bennett (1-2) drove a single into right field, allowing Breland Almadova to score from second base, giving UH a 1-0 lead.
UH scored again in the 5th when Zack Swasey tagged a sac-fly to centerfield, scoring Stephen Ventimilia, giving the Bows a 2-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the 6th, Ventimilia drew a bases loaded walk, that brought home Almadova. In the same frame, Bennett added his second RBI with a sac-fly center field. Kaeo Alivado scored Hawaii's final run, giving UH a 4-0 lead.
From there, pitchers Brent Harrison (1.2 IP, 4 H, ER, 3 SO) and Jesse Moore (0.1 IP, H) combined to close things out.
