WAHIAWA (HawaiiNewsNow) - An early morning crash sent a motorcyclist to the hospital in critical condition and closed roads in the area for hours.

According to officials, the incident happened just before 1 a.m. Thursday on Wilikina Drive, just 160 feet north of Funston gate.

Officials say the 35-year-old man from Mililani was operating a 2011 black Harley Davidson while speeding near Kimoo Farms.

"Witnesses say [the] motorcycle was traveling at high rate of speed, lost control hit the curb, climbed up over the jersey barrier," Honolulu Police Department Lt. Robert Towne said. "[The] occupant flew into the air and struck a fence on the other side."

The victim was transported to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.

Investigators say he was not wearing a helmet.
