HONOLULU (AP) - As a diplomat, former Rep. Samuel Lee traveled the
world, but he always returned to Hawaii to give back to his community.
His many contributions to the state will be remembered, says House
Speaker Calvin Say, who served with Lee in the House from 1986 to 1996.
Lee died early Friday at the age of 81.
After 26 years in the U.S. Foreign Service, Lee settled with his
family in Mililani. When pesticide contamination was found in Mililani's
drinking water, Lee became a community activist. He led a successful grassroots
campaign that compelled developers and government officials to remedy the
situation, Say said in a release.
Lee went on to serve five terms in the House.
He is survived by his wife, Rep. Marilyn Lee, four children and
six grandchildren.
