HONOLULU
(HawaiiNewsNow) - Gas prices rose
throughout Hawaii over the last week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas
Watch.
On
Thursday, the statewide average for regular unleaded is $4.19 a gallon, seven
cents more than a week ago.
Honolulu's
average price rose seven cents over the past week to $4.05 a gallon. That price
is 17 cents more than a month ago and 42 cents higher than this time last
year.
In
Hilo, the average gas price is $4.35 a gallon, up a nickel from last week, 15
cents more than last month and 58 cents higher than this time last year.
Wailuku's
average is $4.41 a gallon, a penny more from last week, five cents more than
last month and 40 cents higher than on this date last year.
Hawaii
continues to have the highest gas prices in the U.S., followed by Alaska with a
$3.86 state average and California at $3.78.
"Shop for low gasoline prices to be sure
you're getting the best price," according to AAA Hawaii Regional Manager Diane
Peterson. "But remember that traveling long distances to save a few cents
wastes fuel and may cost you more money than you save. You can shop around
without wasting gas by using online or smartphone resources like
AAA.com/TripTik or the free AAA TripTik mobile app."
